After getting our fill of fresh cherries, I chopped some of  them up and make these sweet cherry almond bars from a recipe I found The View From Great Island. The crust is buttery and full of almond flavor and the cherries were sweet and delicious. My kids both loved these cherry almond bars and so did my husband and I.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8×8 baking dish with a bit of parchment paper, if desired. Lightly spray the baking dish and parchment with cooking spray. Combine the cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice and almond extract in a bowl; mix well and set aside.
